Manufactured by Paragon China of England, both the cup and saucer retain their original maker's marks on the underside. This beautiful peach colored set features hand-painted details on both the cup and saucer, adding to its charm and collectibility.
The Cup of Knowledge was designed for the enduring Victorian and Edwardian fascination with tasseography (also known as tassomancy), the art of reading tea leaves. Unlike many fortune telling cups of the period that relied heavily on playing card imagery, Paragon's version features a beautiful assortment of symbolic illustrations used in divination and tea leaf reading. Around the rim of the cup is the charming inscription, "Many Curious Things I See When Telling Fortunes in Your Tea," adding to the whimsy and appeal of this unique design.
